The Elite program was established in July 2012 by previous Director and now Artistic Director/teacher Kahlia Mehmet-Smith. The Elite program is a professionally run dance program, which is aimed at students who wish to pursue a career in dance and who are looking for the right guidance and training to do so. At Premiere Elite we provide training in all fields of dance and look to help each student on the right path to succeed in their individual goals. Not only do we look for students who have a strong talent for dance but students who have the passion, drive and determination.

At Premiere Studios we believe every student is individual and deserves a catered training program to suit their standard and ability. Premiere Elite is divided into two programs, Elite and Select Elite. The Premiere Elite programs are comprised of set training classes alongside the option of additional various styled classes. Students are expected to partake in all set program classes but can manage their own program by adding addition classes at their leisure.

Students accepted on an audition process in which all students are assessed for placement into the program. Not only does Premiere Elite have highly qualified staff to train and guide the students, we also have numerous industry experts who are here to support and mentor the students. These experts visit the studio on a regular basis to give advice to the Premiere Elite students on their dancing and career paths as well as holding workshops for inspiration.

Previous mentors and guest industry experts included: Renee Ritchie (So You Think You Can Dance, Brent Street Studios), Carly-Cooper Smith (So You Think You Can Dance), Jason Winters (Choreographer), Mitch Hatton (Eve and Bow Full Time) Hassan Sheta (Cairo Ballet Company, Tanya Pearson’s Classical Coaching Academy), Stephanie Starret (English National Ballet School), Alexandra Crownie (How To Be A Ballet Dancer), Joshua Horner (Dancing With The Stars, A Chorus Line), Lashaun Price (LA based Choreographer), Xander Ellis (Tap Dogs, Rock of Ages), Rebekah Conry (Western Australian Ballet Company) Loredo Malcom (LoCREAdo Dance Company), Betty Dargie (Dargie Entertainment), Kieron Kulik (Jeep Management, Garage Management), Stephen Tannos (Dream Dance Compnay), Tim Farrar (Australian Ballet), Michael Demeski (So You Think You Can Dance), Mitch Hatton (Ev and Bow), Ashlee Winmill (Dargie Entertainment), Michael Boyd (Grayson Boyd),Tahlia Fowler (So You Think You Can Dance) and more.

Students are assessed twice annually by our panel of experts to determine places in the program for the following year. At the discretion of the panel and staff, students may be asked to re audition for the following year’s intake. Students not meeting the standards of the program physically or attitude wise may be asked to leave the program. Those students will be eligible to re apply at the following year’s auditions.

This program operates on a four term structure. Program activities may sometimes be scheduled in the holiday breaks. Students will be advised as much in advance as possible of any such activities. All students enrolled in the Premiere Elite programs are assessed in Classical Ballet, Lyrical/Contemporary and  Jazz Technique by our panel twice a year. The outcome of these assessments will determine their progress throughout the program. Assessments are a great indication to staff as to where a student is sitting and what adjustments, if any need to be made to their program.

in 2020, we created a new program called Select Elite. Students are divided by age and standard and may be moved up or down a level/class at the discretion of the staff. The division of programs means that classes can be kept at a desirable size to ensure all students are receiving the maximum training from their classes. Students accepted into the Premiere Elite program will be involved in performance group work and will need to be available for eisteddfod performances.

At Premiere Studios we aim to train students to the best of their ability. In order to do so students must commit to all classes provided in their program. Any student found to be slacking in class or missing numerous amounts of lessons will be dropped from the program. It is recommended that if you intend to have commitment issues that you consider enrolling in our Premiere Recreational Dance Program. Students at Premiere Elite will have access to Guest Teachers, Choreographers, Mentors, Industry Experts and more to keep as many doors open for the dancers and their futures.

Students wishing to complete R.A.D examinations will do so at the discretion of the teacher. Mock examinations will also be run for all students before their examination, usually during school holidays. Dates of actual examinations are determined by the Royal Academy of Dance, and Premiere Studios has no control over the dates chosen. R.A.D charges exam fees, which are the responsibility of the student. Other fees related to the exam include hire of character skirts, pianist fees and rehearsal/mock exam fees.

Premiere Studios relies a great deal on parental support and fundraising for the studio and its students. All funds raised for the studio goes directly back into the studio and students. Fundraising benefits everyone and we would like to see just as much support equally from all parents. Please do your best to be involved in your child’s studio and make it a fruitful place for everyone. During busy periods at the studio parents may be called upon for help, and although this is not a requirement, any time given is much appreciated.

Students can enter eisteddfods or solo competitions at their own discretion. ALL COMPETITIONS must be passed by the studio staff before entering. Please send a list of desired eisteddfods/competitions to the studio before making any commitments. Students doing solo eisteddfod dances will need three copies of their music on CD. One is the master copy, one is to be used only at eisteddfods, and the other is to be taken to each solo class. Students should take a second copy of their music to all eisteddfod performances as a backup. Students are encouraged to have their music on an iPod for rehearsal purposes. Students wishing to participate in eisteddfod groups can obtain a list of possible dates and performances through the office. Students may be asked to perform in these groups at the discretion of staff. Eisteddfods are normally held during school holidays.

As a member of an Elite Program, students are to make themselves available for all rehearsals and performances.

As of 2022 we have implemented an Eisteddfod fee to all students participating in group eisteddfod performances. The cost of this fee will determine the cost of group entry and divided equally among the students performing. This fee will be invoiced.

The studio holds both Mid Year Showcase Display and End Of Year Gala Performance each year. All students are expected to attend any extra rehearsals that occur in the lead up to the performances. Students should also make themselves available for Petite Mid-Year and End of Year Gala performances. There is a professionally shot DVD of both concerts, which will be a compulsory cost through the school. A professional studio photo day is held close to the concert, usually on a weekend. All students are expected to attend the photo shoot. Students who will be unable to perform in concerts should indicate this to the Director as soon as possible after the date is announced to allow for casting. There will be extra costs involved in purchasing/hiring costumes for performances, although costs will be kept as low as possible. Additional AMCOS and rehearsal fee will be payable for end of year gala performance and mid-year displays.

We have implemented a compulsory DVD purchase per family per concert (mid-year display and end of year gala performance). This is to ensure the videographer costs are covered and to stop the use of illegal copies being made. These costs will be added to your mid-year and end of year costume invoices.

Please note only program classes will guarantee a performance in concerts. All non program classes are training classes and not guaranteed a routine in performances.

Scholarships may be available through an application system. Please note Premiere Studios has minimal scholarships available and funds will only be awarded if the director and staff deem it worthy. Please ask for a scholarship application form if you wish to be considered.

Applications close February 1st 2022.

If a staff member is required to travel with a student or students to a competition, local or international, the student/s will be liable for travel and accommodation costs. These costs will be divided equally between all students involved. In the event that a staff member is missing a significant amount of work, a loss of wage fee may also occur.
