PREMIERE
RECREATIONAL DANCE

PD-0140.jpg

Premiere Recreational Dance was established by Artistic Director Kahlia Mehmet-Smith, in a bid to offer high quality dance classes to dancers of all ages and all styles. NO AUDITION NECESSARY. Premiere Recreational Dance is open to dancers from 9 years of age and offers classes in all styles of dance. At Premiere Recreational Dance we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to dance without commitment of an Elite course and without the financial burden of multiple compulsory classes. Students can enrol in as many or as little classes as they wish. Performance opportunities are still available as well as a mid-year showcase and end of year performance.

Dates of actual examinations are determined by the Royal Academy of Dance, and Premiere Studios has no control over the dates chosen. R.A.D charges exam fees, which are the responsibility of the student. Other fees related to the exam include hire of character skirts, pianist fees and rehearsal/mock exam fees.

CONCERT & PRESENTATION DAYS

The studio holds both a Mid Year Showcase and End Of Year Gala Performance each year. All students are expected to attend any extra rehearsals that occur in the lead up to the performances. Students should also make themselves available for the senior Mid-Year and End of Year Gala Performances. Students who will be unable to perform in concerts should indicate this to the Director as soon as possible after the date is announced to allow for casting. Only Tap, Ballet, Jazz and Lyrical classes guarantee a concert performance. All other classes are training classes and do not guarantee a routine in any performance.

A professional studio photo day is held close to the concert, usually on a weekend. All students are expected to attend the photo shoot.

There will be extra costs involved in purchasing/hiring costumes for performances, although costs will be kept as low as possible. Additional AMCOS and rehearsal fee will be payable for mid-year showcases and end of year performances.

We have implemented a compulsory DVD purchase per family per concert (mid-year display and end of year gala performance). This is to ensure the videographer costs are covered and to stop the use of illegal copies being made. These costs will be added to your mid-year and end of year costume invoices.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Premiere Studios relies a great deal on parental support and fundraising for the studio and its students. All funds raised for the studio goes directly back into the studio and students. Fundraising benefits everyone and we would like to see just as much support equally from all parents. Please do your best to be involved in your child’s studio and make it a fruitful place for everyone. There are times throughout the year, particularly performance times, in which help is needed by parents. Please be aware of these times and do not leave all the work to a few parents.

EISTEDDFODS/COMPETITIONS

Students can enter eisteddfod or solo competitions at their own discretion. ALL COMPETITIONS must be passed by the studio staff before entering. Please send a list of desired eisteddfods/competitions to the studio before making any commitments. Students doing solo eisteddfod dances will need three copies of their music on CD. One is the master copy, one is to be used only at eisteddfods, and the other is to be taken to each solo class. Students should take a second copy of their music to all eisteddfod performances as a backup. Students are encouraged to have their music on a device for rehearsal purposes. Students accepted into the Premiere Elite Program will participate in eisteddfod groups throughout the year. Premiere Dance students may be asked to perform in these groups at the discretion of staff. Eisteddfods are normally held during school holidays.

Students involved in performances must be available for all rehearsals and events.

As of 2022 are implementing a Eisteddfod fee to all students participating in group eisteddfod performances. The cost of this  fee will determine the cost of the group entry and divided equally among the students. This fee will be invoiced.

TIMETABLING

The timetable is constructed according to the availability of staff and studio space. Whilst every effort is made to suit as many people as possible, no timetable will suit every student. Please be aware  that group classes cannot be changed to suit just one student. If you have a problem with the timetable please email the studio.

PART-TIME DAY

Premiere Studios offers a Junior Part-time Day for students in primary School: Kindergarten - Year 6. This training day is held on Thursdays during school hours from approx 9am-3pm. By students attending the Junior Part-time Day, they are able to further their dance training in a more intimate setting. Students have the option to attend weekly or fortnightly.
