The Full-time Commercial Course was established in 2010 and is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in the commercial dance industry.

At Premiere Studios we provide the training necessary for students to refine and expand their skills in all areas of commercial dance. Students are groomed for auditions and work contracts within the industry, and the aim is to create versatile artists that will be desirable within the dance scene. Entry to the course is by audition only and class intake is kept to a minimum to ensure students receive more intimate training.

The course is open to students in academic year 7 and above and any student wishing to continue their academics can do so by the Distance Education Program. Classes take place 9am - 3pm, Monday - Friday with afternoon classes open to full-time students but not compulsory.

Students train in Commercial Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Singing, Acro, Crew (Hip Hop), Fitness, Classical Ballet, Pas De Deux, Stretch, Tech/Combo, Pilates, Active Flex, Strength and Body Conditioning, Boys Strength, Point Class, Drama, Theory, Strength and Coaching. Students have access to fully qualified staff from both Sydney and local areas.

Students are assessed twice annually by our panel of experts to evaluate the students progression. A fee will be issued for both mid-year and end of year assessments. Students not meeting the standards of the course physically or attitude wise may be asked to leave the course. Those students will be eligible to re apply at the following year’s auditions.

Students wishing to complete R.A.D examinations will do so at the discretion of the teacher. Workshops for exam preparation for juniors and seniors will be during the school holidays before the examination session. Mock examinations will also be run for all students before their examination, usually during school holidays. Dates of actual examinations are determined by the Royal Academy of Dance, and Premiere Studios has no control over the dates chosen. R.A.D charges exam fees, which are the responsibility of the student. Other fees related to the exam include hire of character skirts, pianist fees and rehearsal/mock exam fees.

Premiere Studios relies a great deal on parental support and fundraising for the studio and its students. All funds raised for the studio goes directly back into the studio and students. Fundraising benefits everyone and we would like to see just as much support equally from all parents. Please do your best to be involved in your child’s studio and make it a fruitful place for everyone. During busy periods at the studio parents may be called upon for help, and although this is not a requirement, any time given is much appreciated.

Students can enter eisteddfods or solo competitions at their own discretion. ALL COMPETITIONS must be passed by the studio staff before entering. Please send a list of desired eisteddfods/competitions to the studio before making any commitments. All studio commitments should take priority over solo events. Students doing solo eisteddfod dances will need three copies of their music on CD. One is the master copy, one is to be used only at eisteddfods, and the other is to be taken to each solo class. Students should take a second copy of their music to all eisteddfod performances as a backup. Students are encouraged to have their music on a device for rehearsal purposes. Students wishing to participate in eisteddfod groups can obtain a list of possible dates and performances through the office. Students may be asked to perform in these groups at the discretion of staff. Eisteddfods are normally held during school holidays. As a member of an Elite program, students are to make themselves available for all rehearsals and performances.

As of 2022 we have implemented an Eisteddfod fee to all students participating in group eisteddfod performances. The cost of this fee will determine the cost of group entry and divided equally among the students performing. This fee will be invoiced.

Students enrolling in the Full-time Commercial Course have the option of continuing academics through various institutions. It is highly recommended that students take into consideration the extra time needed to complete academics alongside their dance studies. Students at Premiere Studios are currently continuing their academics through the following distance education programs.

• Cairns School of Distance Education - recommended institution

• Sydney Distance Education High school

Each school comes with different fees and enrolment criteria. It is strongly recommended that you discuss your options with the Premiere staff before enrolling in a school. Premiere Studios will provide supervision for academic sign off. It is recommended that you keep communication between parents and staff in regards to the progress of the students academics. Students requiring tutoring should do so in their own time.

The studio holds both an End Of Year Gala Performance and a Mid Year Showcase Display each year. All students are expected to attend any extra rehearsals that occur in the lead up to the performances. Students should also make themselves available for Petite Mid-Year and End of Year Gala Performances. There is a professionally shot DVD of both concerts, which will be a compulsory cost through the school. A professional studio photo day is held close to the concert, usually on a weekend. All students are expected to attend the photo shoot. Students who will be unable to perform in concerts should indicate this to the Director as soon as possible after the date is announced to allow for casting. There will be extra costs involved in purchasing/hiring costumes for performances, although costs will be kept as low as possible. Additional AMCOS and rehearsal fee will be payable for end of year gala concerts and mid-year displays. Please note only program classes will guarantee a performance in concerts. All non program additional classes are training classes and are not guaranteed a routine performance.

We have implemented a compulsory DVD purchase per family per concert (mid-year display and end of year gala performance). This is to ensure the videographer costs are covered and to stop the use of illegal copies being made. These costs will be added to your mid-year and end of year costume invoices.

Scholarships may be available through an application system. Please note Premiere Studios has minimal scholarships available and funds will only

be awarded if the director and staff deem it worthy. Please ask for a scholarship application form if you wish to be considered.

Applications close February 1st 2022.

If a staff member is required to travel with a student or students to a competition, local or international, the student/s will be liable for travel and accomodation costs. These costs will be divided equally between all students involved. In the event that a staff member is missing a significant amount of work, a loss of wage fee may also occur.
